Rising health care costs are having a dramatic impact on families across the country, especially here in the Midwest.

Our free prescription program is the next step Meijer is taking to lead the industry toward improving the health of our customers.

The following are free with your doctor's prescription, regardless of insurance or co-pay:

  • Select antibiotics
  • Select prenatal vitamins
  • Metformin Immediate Release
  • Atorvastatin Calcium

National health experts say that 40% of children who see a physician, leave with a prescription. "When appropriately prescribed, antibiotics are the leading tools to treat sick kids," said Dr. Herman Gray, fellow American Academy of Pediatrics and president of the Children's Hospital of Michigan.

Prescription must be picked up at store in person. Does not include extended release formulations. List is subject to change. Not valid with any other offer.

Metformin Immediate Release

Diabetes is on the rise. An estimated 22.3 million people were living with type 1 or type 2 diabetes in 2012, according to a report by the America Diabetes Association. That is 127% of the 2007 numbers. Metformin is the top prescribed drug for Type 2 diabetes. Along with lifestyle change, it is a first-line therapy.

Atorvastatin Calcium

New American Heart Association Cholesterol Treatment Guidelines for Cholesterol management were announced in 2014. Therapy is now based on total atherosclerotic cardiovascular risk. Atorvastatin is recommended for both high-intensity and moderate-intensity therapy. Atorvastatin is the most widely prescribed drug for managing cholesterol.

Prenatal Vitamins

Prenatal vitamins play an important role in healthy pregnancies and healthy babies. These supplements have typically been prescribed for pregnant women. However, many members of the medical community believe they also play an important role for women in the important months leading up to conception. A large number of physicians now prescribe these vitamins for the months leading up to a patient's attempt to conceive.
