Comments about Home Styles Natural Kitchen Cart with Black Granite Top - 52.5-Inches Wide:

Okay. I'll start with the good. As someone who has a lot of experience with assembly-required furniture, I'd have to agree with other reviewers that this is the best quality I've worked with. Except for the back panels and drawer bottoms, it's actually made of wood! A rare find nowadays it seems. Shipping was faster than expected: I ordered on a Thursday and it was delivered the following Tuesday (and Monday was a holiday!) Due to the sheer size and weight of the boxes (2) and the number of pieces, I decided to actually lay everything out and do an inventory before beginning assembly. To my amazement everything was there, right down to the number of hardware pieces.

Assembly would have been an hour or two if it weren't for the awful wood screws though. I did appreciate the fact that there seemed to be a lot less hardware than with other furniture I've assembled. Most of the hardware was also separated into seperate little bags labeled with what was inside...not really any guesswork there. I didn't have a problem with any of the larger bolts, but some of the small wood screws that attach the casters to the bottom and that are used for all the drawers were nearly impossible to tighten all the way. It seems to be a combination of the holes being too shallow and the heads easily strip-able. Granted, I did not have a power screwdriver and didn't want to risk damage with a drill, but it might be worth it to invest in better-quality screws before attempting this. As a result, a couple of the assembled drawers did not sit tightly together, but when I put them into the main unit and got them in the tracks, this isn't really noticeable and all appears functional.

Now to the granite top. It came packed well, in a wooden crate inside the box. Exactly the color black I was expecting, no chips or damage to the stone. There are some circular marks in the finish that are visible in certain light, which appear to be the result of a sanding/polishing tool that might have been rested on it. It wasn't significant enough for me to go through the trouble of exchanging it though.

The only thing really concerning me at this point is how this granite will hold up. We are using it as extra counter space for a toaster oven and coffee maker so I wanted something heat-resistant. Other reviews said that the stainless tops scratched easily so we went with the granite for its durability. So far I've put the toaster oven and coffee maker on it and made coffee once this morning....and I can see all kinds of scratches in the finish. I didn't think this was characteristic of granite. So we will see how that goes.

Like others have said, the drawers are shallow. We plan to use a few of them for cutlery, so I'm now on the hunt for trays or dividers that will fit. The dimensions of the interior of the assembled drawers are only about 10.5 x 11.5, so just be aware.

Overall though, it's a sharp-looking piece. The natural color wood is similar to a butcher block color and looks great with the black granite top. The hardware is nice quality with a satin-nickel finish. I actually wasn't crazy about the hardware in the picture and ordered the piece with the intention of swapping out the handles to match my existing ones, but upon installation I ended up liking the hardware it comes with. It was a perfect fit for the space we had -- also I should note that we did not attach the spice rack or paper towel holder because we had a specific space to fit it into and because we wanted one side flush up against the stove so it formed an extension of our counter. Aside from a couple of empty holes which really aren't noticeable, it looks fine without the side attachments.

If you're looking for additional counter or storage space, I'd say go for it. It's worth it when you realize how junky most of the assemble-yourself furniture is out there. I wish I'd had this when I lived in my small apartment.
