The Whynter ARC-14S Dual-Hose Portable Air Conditioner features the eco-friendly CFC-free GREEN R-410A refrigerant. This unit features the patented advance auto drain technology, which uses and recycles moisture collected during the cooling process to produce cool air. I put this air conditioner upstairs to cool the bedrooms. It does a great job keeping the bedrooms cool and works just like it is supposed to. It isn't exactly quiet but it isn't any louder than you would expect from a large air conditioner. I have not had any problems with water leaking or the bucket filling up and it has been running almost constantly for a 2 months trying to keep up with high humidity.

The only real cons that I have are with the window installation. The window unit is plastic with screws going through. It is easy for the screw holes to strip out, especially if you have to install and remove it. My only other complaint is that the hoses were too short to reach my window so I ended up placing the unit on an end table. Overall though, this is a great unit and does exactly what it is supposed to.

I bought this because my living/dining room (500 sq. ft.) doesn't have the right size/type windows for a typical window A/C unit and I didn't want to do a central or zone A/C installation yet. Portable floor-standing A/C seemed like the way to go, so I got this one, based on BTUs, and some review/feedback of this and other units.

On warm days (85F, 70%-75% RH) it barely keeps up with holding the rooms at 75F). Admittedly, I'm asking it to do a little more cooling than it's rated for, but I think this unit should have been designed with a better air distribution system to circulate air around the room more effectively. I'm augmenting it with a small Vornado fan.

    The most effective 14000 btu A/C I've bought ever. I use it in the living room which is close to 420 square feet large. No problem cooling such a wide space. Very pleased with everything, including the price.

          [...]. When arrived the manufacturer tightened a screw too tight, it broke the plastic, and the screw fell into the unit. We had to purchase a special screwdriver, wait for instructions from the company, and get a friend that knew machines to disassemble to find the loose screw. Once that was done, the unit has run well. The company has promised us a rebate for our trouble.

            It is crazy hot here in NJ. Don't think we've had this type of weather in many years. Got two of these dual-hosers to take care of business. We've had a very positive experience with our 8 year old Whynter unit and haven't been disappointed with new ones. I'm not looking forward to stepping outside for some time.

            Ditched my window unit and upgraded to this. So far no regrets. This is a winner. Weather here has been fluctuating around 90F and I don't feel the heat with this running at full blast. Just blast it for 45 mins and you can turn it down. You room will be able to maintain a nice temperature.

              Whynter AC lasted two short summers, our summers are less than two months long. We got about 4 months worth of cooling out of the AC. Rotating compressor wheel broke on the first day of using it this summer. Costs almost as much [...]fix as to buy a new one. [...] Worked great while it worked if you think getting about 4 months worth of cooling for the cost is worth it. I wouldn't recommend the Whynter ACs. My Maytag portable AC from 8 years ago on the other hand still works like new in the other room. Too bad Maytag no longer makes portable ACs, I would buy another one in a heart beat.
