my 15 month old first started playing with it at age about 4 months. once he made out that he could press buttons and make it 'talk', he used it a lot. i sense/guess that he also liked hearing the childlike voice.
he recently started trying to push the spin button down but it needs more strength than he's got. his interest in the toy went down only now with the batteries.
initially (for a while) he did get startled by its volume (even the lower volume was too loud) and i would recommend adding another level of volume, a very soft one, which i'd anticipate would sound like an older child talking softly to the baby, whereas right now it's like an older child shouting around him. i used the higher volume level only when the battery got too low for the lower.

The motion and lights are all great. However, it is not a learning toy. The voice and animal sounds are not understandable. Its muffled and sounds like a broken fast food order box. The animal sounds sound more like bodily noises than actual animal sounds. A child cannot learn unless the sound are clear and discernible.

Comments about VTech Spin N Learn Top Toy:

this toy is absolutely cute first off and it spins which keeps the baby entertained. This was purchased at Christmas of 2012. My son loved it - of course he loves music and sits there and dances with it twirling...it is so cute to watch. As far as educational it isn't as educational as most of their products are known for but it is still cute and has worked great and kept my son entertained. My son still plays with it as a toddler and seems to enjoy it still.

Great toy but I feel maybe they need to adjust the age group a little...I would more recommend this for children 12-24 months not 36 months...My 3 year old got it for Christmas and wants nothing to do with it...says it's "for babies", my 18 month old loves it though

Comments about VTech Spin N Learn Top Toy:

My 8 month old loves this toy. My mom bought it for him for Christmas this year, but within a week there was no sound. Unfortunately she bought it at an annoying megastore that begins with W and as much a I hate that store I went to exchange it because he loved it so much. He was happy, but here it is 3 weeks later and the sound is now clicking, and no music plays. I am now trying to decide if it worth exchanging again since this seems to be a recurring pattern. There has been no dropping or throwing or any wear and tear beyond what I would expect from a baby. I would expect this toy to last longer than a few weeks.

Comments about VTech Spin N Learn Top Toy:

My son had been using this almost daily for several months before the battery died. He was so sad when it stopped working! He started playing with it right before his first birthday. A warning...the song can get really tiring to adults, and there doesn't seem to be a volume button to turn it low. Also, the picture doesn't have the actual toy that is described! The current item has very cute sea animals that make sounds when they are pressed.

The main con about this is the batteries that came with it. When I took them out, I noticed that there was a warning not to dispose of in household trash. It was unclear as to whether they are alkaline batteries or not, so I'll have to take them to a battery disposal site to figure it out.

My husband got this toy for our son (who is now almost 4 y/o) when he was an infant, and he would play with it all the time. He loved that it lit up, played music, and made animal sounds! When he was little he was the kind of baby that threw/dropped stuff, so he dropped it a lot, and now it doesn't work right, but we still have it until I purchase a new one, or one like it because I think my 8 m/o daughter would love it just as much as my son did! The only thing I didn't like about the toy is the number buttons sometimes would stick when you pushed them, but they were easy to get unstuck with a butter knife.

I am a Music Education major, and my baby niece has this toy. I was very disappointed to hear it singing, "Do Re Mi", when in fact, for those pitches that were being sung, the actual correct solfege would be "Do Sol Do". This might sound silly, but if you are a music educator or are involved in music in any way, this will drive you up the wall. Also, it is not properly educating your child when it comes to simple basics of music. It would be the same as if the toy counted from 1 to 10, and skipped 3. If V-tech prides themselves in educating youth, they should include Music as a part of this education.
