        A decent, basic watch

Comments about Timex Mens Black Resin Digital Sports Watch Black:

I purchased the Timex 1440 Sports watch with a bunch of other watches with a gift card...long story. For practicality, I'll refer to this watch as the 1440S.

The 1440S is a good, basic watch, hence three stars. The time digits are relatively easy to read because they are large. However, the numbers are also "stretched" slightly by gaps in the pixels, which makes it just a tiny bit less crisp than it could have been. I would have preferred no gaps in the time pixels.

The 1440S displays time, seconds, and day of week in the main display. You can get to the date by pressing the upper-right hand button (beep), which flashes the month/day for as long as you press the button. Stopwatch, alarm, timer and time (2) are accessed (beep, beep, beep, beep), by pressing the lower left button in succession. Some of the programming is altered by the upper left button...I'm saving the details for the instructions. The lower right button is Timex's highly-marketed Indiglo, which is rather pleasant and stays on for about three seconds. Thankfully, this button does not beep!

On a comfort scale, I would have to rate the 1440S as average. My wrist is sized so the clasp attaches at the exact middle hole in the band, which allows the watch to fit without sliding but without imprinting my skin or cutting off circulation. At this setting, the band still "hugs" the lateral sides of my wrists--you can feel it. It also pushes the top right of the watch into my wrist bone (the one you can see and feel if you put your wrist into traditional "look at the watch" position:). Luckily, the band is not itchy, varigated, or otherwise annoying. I could "exercise" the band a little to take the springiness out of it, but that would probably lead to premature wear or breakage. One thing about the band that is nice is the band keeper. The little loop that holds the free end of the band has a small hole that fits into the tag end of the band. Fitting them together locks the keeper in place without sliding around. More watch makers should copy this feature.

The buttons on the 1440S are easily accessed, but not so much that they are accidentally pressed. For looks, the 1440S looks average without looking too cheap; you certainly wouldn't mistake it for an expensive model. As noted above, the beeping could go, and this complaint is repeated by reviewers on the web quite often.

For accuracy, I set the watch to U.S. atomic time last week. My watch has gained two seconds, which isn't too bad for an inexpensive watch.

For the price, the 1440S is a decent, basic watch. I plan to use it in places where I don't mind if it would get knocked around, brushed against, or otherwise abused. I wouldn't wear it as an office or evening watch, but it will do for yard work, casual sports, or home improvement. It won't be my main watch, or even my primary casual watch, but I expect it will see use as a change of pace.

Would I recommend it to a friend?? As an inexpensive watch with no guarantee of length of function, I would say that is up to the friend's taste. I know people who are happy with anything that is cheap, durable and functional. I know others who would be aghast at wearing anything that would make them appear "unfashionable". to this question, "yes" to the cheap and functional, "no" to the fashionable.

Great watch. I use it while running. Plastic band is a little stiff and sometimes uncomfortable. Easy to operate.
