If you buy this because you live in a snowy area and think it is sturdy enough to withstand a snowplow- guess again! Ours has been taken out too many times to count and is currently being held together w/ metal straps and wire! Will replace it with something cheaper in the spring. Bought this one after our cheap one was destroyed the first winter and figured this would fair better! Wrong! I know there is no claim from the company to the effect it could stand up to a snowplow, but the sturdy appearance would make you think so! (According to our highway dept. the plow never actually hits the mailbox- it's the force of the snow!)

Comments about Step2 MailMaster Plus Mailbox Spruce:

Our first Mailmaster Trimline was backed over by the garbage truck. They had it replaced with another one. After 6 months a 4WD pickup ran over it and broke off the treated 4x4 at the ground. Our security cameras seen the action. They showed the box was severed from the bottom post on impact. The bottom post was run over by the sleepy driver and the box was thrown 80 feet up the roadway. The flag was broken (glued back together), one door was on the roadway, the other door was across the road in the ditch, and the post was all scratched. I did manage to set a new post and reinstall the big green box the same day in time for our mail delivery. No, he didn't stop.

We were the first in our neighborhood to acquire the Step 2 a good many (more than 10, fewer than 15) years ago. We have lots of walkers and a number of them stopped to inquire where we had gotten our box...We bought it in Myrtle Beach, SC and brought it back to VA. I shared the information on the box and people followed through to get one of their own. Now I would say that at least 75% of the boxes in our subdivision
are Step 2's. I'm sorry that you seem to have discontinued the particular model we have, but judging by its history, we won't have to replace it for years to come.

When we moved into our house almost 20 years ago we had to replace the old and damaged metal mail box. We've never had any trouble with this box - even when a neighbor tried to vandalize it. It's been a great value.

I was disappointed that the newspaper compartment was smaller than the one being replaced although it was supposedly the same model. The stainless steel screws were easier to install than the plastic fasteners of the previous same model.
I like the idea of giving a line for alignment of the numbers so that any size can be easily installed.

I bought this mailbox December 1998..15 years ago. It has held up except for some fading (dark green in color). Last night vandals came down our road with a baseball bat...metal boxes did not stand a chance but this mailbox did...except it lost its flag...that is what I am doing here...looking for a replacement flag. Where can I find one?

When we moved to the country 15 years ago we installed this mailbox to deter vandals. They try to beat it and can't, so they tear the doors off....I just put the doors back on :) LOL. They took a machete to it....just cut the top though, my mail was still dry. Drunk drivers come by and tear it down with their car at least once a year, the last one was last saturday, I just put it back up! I have only had to replace it with a new one twice. Ten years ago a 16 year old girl and her 10 year old passenger tore it to pieces and a few months ago her brother came by and tried again without success! Both times the vehicle was traveling sideways when the box was hit! I don't know how they could make this product any better.

Comments about Step2 MailMaster Plus Mailbox Spruce:

I have installed 33 of these as part of a community mail box replacement effort to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project. Boxes are durable and long lasting in North Carolina climate. Back newspaper flap allows papers to slide through and be exposed to weather - should be more ridged. To prevent mold and UV fading, coat unit initially and a couple of times a year with Armorall.
