Love this item for children first learning to climb. I have twins, one walking and the other crawling. They were premies and my little one is still learning her balance. My boy has mastered it all. They both love playing on this structure. I have it on our balcony so it is the perfect size (our balcony is enclosed and safe for this). We turned the sandbox into a ball pit and they are laughing out there all the time! It was a gift to them from my mother in law. We are so happy she got this for them!! I recommend this to anyone. It is also a reasonable price and super cute too. I have all sorts of ideas for the boat sandbox that do not include sand. We will use it for a ballpit, beans, toy box and more. Great piece!

My 17month old daughter loves both the slide and the sand box, she loves the sand box the most when she can use it. She can climb into the sandbox herself and she has lots of fun. The only problem is when it rains the lid dose not keep the rain out! it fills with water and then takes days to dry out. My husband drilled holes around the rim where the lid hits so we will see if that drains the water out. If that doesn't work we will have to cover it with a tarp but that will be a hassle to remember to do all the time. I probably wouldn't of got it if I knew that would happen.

Comments about Step2 Dockside Sandbox and Climber:

We've had this product for about 5 months, but my daughter only played in the sandbox three times. Every time it rains, the sandbox gets filled with water, even though the top is closed and I put a plastic tarp over it. By the time the water evaporates, it rains again and we are back to square one.

Comments about Step2 Dockside Sandbox and Climber:

The directions are simple as is the assembly. But the molding on the deck piece where the slide fits in is smaller than the width of the slide. Therefore assembly can not be completed and no further comments can be made. Except that we live out in the country and the huge inconvenience and time wasted is disappointing. We would expect that childrens toys would have a tighter quality control inspection.

My daughter loves this toy! It was easy to put together too. The slide is short so this is really best for small children 3 and under probably, but the sandbox is great for slightly older ages. Definitely recommend this product.

Comments about Step2 Dockside Sandbox and Climber:

We are always looking for fun toys and my little ones were very excited to help with this review. The day we received it I opened the door and my kids were excited by finding 2 BIG boxes on our front porch. They immediately kept asking what was in the box. I brought it in and turned it around and they saw the picture on the box and literally started jumping up and down with excitement! They ship the items in their orginal box so they item is displayed on the outside.

We brought both boxes in and took them to our back patio to begin assembling it.

We first began by taking all the pieces out and laying them on the floor.

Next we took out the instruction to see where we should start. My oldest 2 children were invited to help put this item together. I would like to mention there are a few screws that will need be screwed in and we used a screw gun for some of them till our battery ran out. Just makes the process a bit faster.

We started by attaching the Red Slide and Green Ladder to the platform and side wall. Super easy with just a few screws. My kids were excited as I let them help with the screw gun and holding the pieces. Next we attached the red steering wheel to the front of the boat, then attached the platform to the blue boat that you see.

Next we attached the back wall and placed the top on the sandbox. Last but not least, We attaced 2 stickers and the canopy. The canopy we received would not stay in the sections of the wall. I contacted Step2 and stated my problem and they were a HUGE help. They immediately asked me the problem and fixed it by sending us a brand new canopy which works perfect. Wonderful customer service and super fast shipping.

The sandbox of course is made to put sand in it. Well, I homeschool and have the kids home with me all the time. We live in Florida and rain showers can pop up at anytime. I decided I wanted to keep this on our patio, which is screened in with windows and tiled floor. The sand would be way to big of a mess for this room, so I had to brainstorm. I was going to go buy the plastic play balls to place in it by my kids talked me out of it. They like it with nothing in it all. They sit on the inside and pretend they are driving the boat. Just another thought if you decide to purchase this item and don't want to use the sand. If I would have placed this item outside then we definately would have put sand in the inside. It comes with a cover to place over the boat so no need to worry about the sand on the inside.

My kids are ages 8, 6 and 16 months. It states recommended age is 1.5 - 5 years old. As you see 2 of my children are over this age but still have a blast with the item. This is just to give you a rough idea of the ages that it would work best for. My son who is 8 is a bit big for it but still can get into the mix with the girls while playing on it.

We are a member of the Step2 Test Drive Mom Team. We receive this item for free but it did not alter our opinion. All opinions are 100% honest and true and our own.

Comments about Step2 Dockside Sandbox and Climber:

My family got a chance to test drive the Dockside and Sandbox Climber from Step2 for a review, and it is perfect for our toddler.

The assembly was quick and easy, and it is very sturdy and durable. The only issue I encountered was difficulty with attaching the steering wheel to the sandbox, because one of the parts kept on falling out. I solved the problem by letting gravity do the work, because if you put the sandbox upside down when starting to screw the screws in, this will prevent the main attachment piece from falling out in the back.

We live in sunny South Florida, so the canopy is great, and my 2 1/2 year old loves playing in the sandbox.

The lid for the sandbox keeps bugs and cats out, which is a plus because we have a lot of strays cats around here. The only con is that the lid does not keep water out when the rain hits hard, but it is easy to tip over the sandbox or drill a few holes to let the water run out.

The Step2 Sandbox and Climber attracts kids in an instant, and my kids love it. We also get a lot of visitors in our backyard these days, because it has turned into a neighborhood playground with the Step2 Sandbox and Climber.
