Only 3% of coffee grown around the world is good enough to make it into a bag of Starbucks coffee. And it's always 100% Arabica. French Roast: French is all about the roast. It's our darkest and boldest and not for the faint of heart. We roast the beans to their edge for a singular smoky flavor. And that's the French Roast calling card. Normally you wouldn't expect such a bang from a coffee with low acidity and virtually no body, but this is no ordinary brew. It's a delectably roasty cup, intense and uncompromising.
We roast coffees darker to achieve specific flavors - from subtle notes of caramelized sugar to a bold smoky taste. It takes special beans to go this dark. Anything other than dense, high-grown Arabica beans will turn to ash and leave an unpleasant finish. But when a good bean meets a skilled roaster, ah, that's something to be reckoned with.

- Recipe for Great Coffee: Use cold, filtered water and a clean machine. Grind Beans Just Before Brewing: Coarse for coffee press; Medium for automatic drip. Measure 2 tbsp (10 g) ground coffee for every 6 fl oz (180 ml) water. Storage Philosophy 101: To preserve that fresh, just-roasted flavor, keep this bag sealed tight in a cabinet (not the refrigerator) and brew within a week of opening.
