The "mode" button only works to change between the time and the alarm time. Unfortunately, you can only SET the alarm time, the actual time and date cannot be changed at all. This does not even account for the fact that this is supposed to be a STOPWATCH. The mode button doesn't even allow you to access the stopwatch mode! So I'm stuck with an oversized plastic pocket watch that always shows the wrong time. No doubt this is a defective unit, but after reading other reviews from different sites, this company appears to have serious quality control issues. Do a little online research and you'll purchase a different brand.

I bought the SportLine model 228 from a local store because I needed a hand timer to use in a project I was working on. Normally I am the type who can take up most pieces of electronic gadgets and get them working with out reading the manual. Before I started however, I decided to consult the instructions and noted they were not very detailed. I have tried everything in getting the unit to set the time and date/day of the week etc, and I just could not make it happen. I visited the Sportline website to see if they have more complete instructions on their site and it was the same as what was supplied with the product.

The product seems well constructed and has a nice large display, fits the hand nicely with the operating buttons in the right place. The fact that I cannot get it to work as a simple timer is causing me to think I will be returning it to the place of purchase before the day is out.
