Previously I had the downspouts going directly into my rain barrels. Whenever it would rain, the overflow hoses couldn't manage the volume of water and I would have water coming out of the top of the rain barrel and soaking the foundation. With the diverter, the overflow is routed safely away from my foundation through my downspouts. Great product and great price!

We have another diverter on another barrel that came with the product and it is a little better, however, this is a good value for the money.

Simple design, fits both 3" and 4" downspouts. Easy to install, works great, filled 65 gallon rain barrel with one heavy rain fall.

The installation directions state that the water of the diverter and rain barrel are to be at the same level. However, since my rain barrel has an overflow drain that directs the water back into the downspout when the barrel is full, this allowed me to install the diverter higher than the rain barrel. If your rain barrel has it's own overflow this installation method is an option.
