This is a lightweight, well-made, powerful vacuum that is so easy to store and use. I would not recommend it for carpeting. I love taking it out to the garage to clean the interior of my car. There are only two cons: The cord wraps around the base of the unit inside of a groove and it is very difficult to wrap and unwrap it. The tools store on the side which makes it even more difficult to wrap the cord. The second, and more annoying con, is the extremely loud, high pitched noise it makes when you use it. I am considering returning it but I love everything else about it so I'm conflicted.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
