Comments about Q-See 8-Channel H.264 Pentaplex DVR with 8 CCD Cameras:

The initial installation of the system is very straightforward and simple. The difficult part is running the cables. The system is simple plug and play. [...] The 60 foot supplied cables were ok for my installation, however our home is very small so optional cables may be needed. I still need to hook up the DVR to the internet. The daytime clarity and color is fantastic. The night vision is good for about 30 feet. We have the unit set for motion detection and with eight cameras searching for an event is very time consuming. We also used all eight cameras to cover the exterior of our small home. The system supports PTZ (Pan, zoom and tilt) and using PTZ cameras I could have covered the outside of my home with far fewer cameras and had better coverage, however PTZ cameras are considerably more expensive. The good thing is I have that option to upgrade.

Comments about Q-See 8-Channel H.264 Pentaplex DVR with 8 CCD Cameras:

Plug and play install. Day time color and clarity is excellent. Night vision is pretty good but is limited to the advertised 30 feet or so and the clarity is nowhere near that of the daytime clarity, but that is expected. At night the cameras do their job in near total darkness. Searching for an event that was taped is time consuming and somewhat confusing. We have the recording set for motion detection and that works pretty seamlessly. That setup was confusing; however the customer service staff were very helpful in getting that straightened out. I have not mastered the internet set up yet but I am hopeful that will work as advertised. We live in a very small home and the 60 foot cables were a challenge in mounting two of the cameras, so for a larger home you will probably need the longer optional cables. All of the cameras in this system are fixed and there to get full coverage it required the use of all 8 cameras for our home. The system also operates PTZ (Pan, tilt and zoom) cameras that for us would have allowed better coverage with less cameras, however the PTZ units are much more expensive.

      Pros

      • Easy to setup
      • Easy to use
      • Works well on cell

      Cons

      • 'cheap' looking camera's
      • Cheap cables - break easy
      • Probably not good outside

Comments about Q-See 8-Channel H.264 Pentaplex DVR with 8 CCD Cameras:

Easy to install, setup, and configure. Works well on cell phones to view the video remotely. Camera's are a bit 'cheap' looking and thin plastic. We were going to put one outside, but I seriously doubt it would last.
