Simple, straightforward and easy to use. I bought it as a gift for my boyfriend. He even tested it on his Bowie knife! It's adjustable enough to sharpen most of the kitchen and utility knives we have, as well as some small swords. He says; "Although it may not put a "razor" edge on a blade, it's definitely sharp enough to do the job". It took a few passes through each set of wheels to get a good edge on an unsharpened blade, just like the instructions stated.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
