The Vita is a great portable console, but Sony has made it so expensive to own that I have to wonder if a price cut is coming in the next few months. It's ridiculous that Sony created a new memory card format just for this system, rendering the memory cards used in PSPs useless. These memory cards are much too expensive. Also, the new game cartridge format means that any games you've purchased for the PSP will not work on this system. With games averaging around $40 and going up to $50, it's hard imagine how this system will become a mainstream success. You're looking at around $500 just to get started with a couple of decent games. Cost aside, the device is great with exceptional graphics and tight controls. I found the navigation system to be unnecessarily complicated. In fact, I had to do an on-line search just to figure out how to close a game. I'm not sure why Sony did away with the X-bar menu system it used on the PSP and other devices. The new system looks like a less sophisticated verson of Apple's navigation scheme. A note to Sony: it's going to be a slap in the face of consumers if you release a Vita Slim in about a year. Make the device right the first time!

    Pros

    • Very portable, responsive touch screen, perfect size, easy to use, light and can survive a drop

    Cons

    • Easily scratches, alright battery life

    Best Uses

Comments about PlayStation Vita WiFi Handheld Gaming System:

I love my Vita, it took some getting use to, but after a week I understood everything on it. After a week though, i started noticing scratches after just putting it in an empty pocket about 15 times, it doesn't have a durable screen at all, my suggestion with it if you plan on buying one is that you also buy a Zagg Shield and a hard shell case. Also, it has a very small game library at the moment

      Nothing special

      By kalte

      from McLean

Comments about PlayStation Vita WiFi Handheld Gaming System:

While it has a very decent hardware, it fails to shine. First, web navigation is slow, facebook is much more faster in a cell phone. It has to load for everything, even to enter settings it has a little load time. In game load times are long, much more than in PSP, but once the game is running it's not annoying, you just have to wait a lot until you can play (at least on Disgaea 3 or Motorstorm). Coming from Sony it's not a surprise it uses, again, a new propietary memory card, so you have to play more for something that you can't use it anywhere outside the Vita (they say it's for "protection" against piracy, but encripting a microSD would do the same and cheaper for consumers). Screen has nice colors and it's responsive, too bad it's resolution it's not very high. A high end phone, with a 4 inches screen has HD resultion (Xperia S anyone?), here with 5 inches it just like an iPhone. Rear touchpad, in my opinion is useless. Cameras are very good, nice colors and definition, too bad it does not have a LED flash for rear camera. Not a very ergonomic device, can't play for more than half an hour withouth y fingers and hand starts to hurt. No TV out?? Seriously? Probably in the future they'll sell us a $50 dollars device to do it... Overall a decent device, can deliver tons of fun, but has many flaws. Hopefully most of them can be fixed, as they're software related.

Comments about PlayStation Vita WiFi Handheld Gaming System:

I love this thing, it's a powerful little device, and an amazing one, the graphics are great, and the anolog sticks help A LOT however it's a little expensive, and so are the memory cards, even a price drop of like $10 on the memory cards would be very helpful.

Comments about PlayStation Vita WiFi Handheld Gaming System:

      Good part
Display is very sharp and bright.
Very nice and responsive touch screen.
      Audio is clear.
      Dual Analogs feel great.
Battery life seemed better than my PSP Go.
      Easy to use Interface.

      Bad part
      Memory requirement and cost

The memory stick price sucks yes, but I am happy to pay a little extra to make sure that my Vita gets developer support and doesn't succumb to piracy like my old favorite system, the PSP. I know that people hate the Content Manager program which is required to move files back and forth from your PS3 or PC, but I am fine with a little extra hassle. They times have changed, and if you aren't a pirate, theres no reason not to love the Vita.

The controls are great, the touchscreen is accurate and responsive, the graphics for the games are great and its still only launch titles/first generation. I think this system is going to live strong, with 25+ games available already.

The PS Vita feels like an incomplete product to me. How would you feel if you go buy a Smartphone or an iPhone or something of that nature, and it didn't have internal memory, therefor, you cannot play 'Angry Birds', 'Doodle Jump', you can't take pictures, nor have a full web-browsing experience?

I owned my PS Vita for a total of 22 hours. I only used it for about hour and a half, then decided to go return it.

I felt like I was being ripped off my girlfriend's money (This was my late gift for Valentine's day).
Very very disappointed by Sony's incomplete product.
