I received the weekly ad showing this waffle maker on sale for $10 off the regular price. I considered a purchase, based on the fact that I had used similar machines at hotels when I was on vacation.However, the waffle maker I saw at the store was nothing like those vacation-hotel models. The heat adjustment knob felt chintzy and fragile, and the shaft that the iron rotates on was made of plastic. The display model already was hard to turn from (presumably) limited store use. If you purchase this one anyway, buy the extended warranty; you will probably use it.I bought the Oster 3883 model instead, and this one works perfectly for me, an occasional cook. It heats evenly, the temperature adjustment knob is large & sturdy, and it makes excellent waffles.The only drawbacks are the non-removeable plates, and the lack of a latch to hold the plates together when storing in a vertical position. I would recommend this model over the rotating one any day.

We tried a pair of other similarly priced waffle makers out before settling on this particular model. The first brand we tried had poor construction quality -- the lid clip snapped while we unpacked it! The other device we tried made shallow waffles and didn't seem to cook all the way through. We had to let them sit for double the recommended time just to get something edible. The Oster flip allows us to make Belgian waffles just like the ones we've enjoyed at restaurants. These aren't like the tiny Kellogg waffles you buy at [...], these are deep large waffles that you can make a meal of. The flip allows the batter to settle evenly, flowing into the deep grooves to make perfect waffles every time. The construction is solid and the cook time is accurate. As a bonus, you can turn the flip sideways so the waffle maker requires less storage space!
