I bought this for my daughter's dorm room to hang jackets and hoodies on. The doors at the dorms are thicker, like an exterior door and there is no adjustment on this product for that. I ended up using it at home, where it works fine. It just didn't perform the use I wanted it for.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
