Comments about Magellan RoadMate 1430 GPS Navigator:

Daily use, we inspect residential properties in the city of Detroit, lots of confusing street, one ways, etc. We cannot live without it. Learning curve time required. We love the voice prompts, pleasant, non-irritating.

Comments about Magellan RoadMate 1430 GPS Navigator:

I bought it for my boss who drives all day looking at single family homes. It is perfect, saves alot of gas and time. It took awhile to get used to the menus but he is completely dependent on it. The voice is not annoying at all. She re-routes you quickly.

Comments about Magellan RoadMate 1430 GPS Navigator:

The plastic mount that snaps onto back of it and then attaches to either windshield or dash device was broken within 3 months. I agree with previous user from Indiana: FEMALE VOICE NEEDS TO BE CHANGED!!! I've used other GARMIN models and they have a LOT more features, but at double the price, so I went with the cheaper Magellan and was not disappointed. I fly a lot, and also drive cross-country a lot as well. Flying mostly east coast and south, but driving around the west coast a lot. So the satellite acquisitions are SLOW at first, (5 minutes once plugged into a rental car) but once you are in that area--> very fast! Maybe just 5 SECONDS once you're up and running. So local traffic around Indy -- No problems!!! I suggest new users always leave it attached! If you are a AAA customer -- they offer a bonus 1 year warranty if you register the device with them... as well as other online accessories! You can download their AAA books onto the device for finding hotels, grocery stores, ATMS, coffee places, drugstores, restaurants, NEAREST gas stations!!! VERY HANDY!!! FREE AAA updates too, as long as your AAA membership is valid. I've also tried the Magellan radio road updates! They are great! They work in about 60 metro areas where chips/road sensors are built-into roads and they provide traffic flow/detours and ways to avoid road construction as well as avoid accidents! Saves me about 30-45 minutes each week when traveling for businesss in other cities! TRY the 3 month subscription for free! You can activate at anytime, so use it wisely. Their service is about the same cost per month as a GARMIN model... but GARMIN, once again, has a few more features. I love ONE feature that has NEARLY paid for itself! The AVOID TOLL ROADS feature. You can plot out fastest distance, shortest distance, avoid interstates and avoid toll roads and a quick check between the 2 may save you time/money!!! In one week in FL I saved over 45.00. So, keep that in mind too if you travel a lot. I plan on getting a model for my parents once they retire, just for driving around the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic states. FYI: It's now ILLEGAL as of July 1st, 2009, to use window-mounted devices in MN as well as CA. Other states are considering the same type of legislation. Do yourself a favor and get a center console, or "sandbag non-slip grips dashboard mount" instead of using the window mount!
