We use this for our newborn now 6 months old (I know it says on the package 3y rs and up); but it was a great buy when she was 2 months old. It helped ditract her when she was in her colicky crying spells. She still loves it---we give it to her to hold while she is gettin her diaper changed. Two things I would change, is having a better hand grip for little hands--maybe an indent--even for a 3yr old or and adult. Second, padding around the wand incase it falls out of someone's hand.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
