Leapster2 is the only handheld preschool gaming system that connects to the LeapFrog Learning Path, an online, interactive tool that allows you to see what your child is learning. Children learn school skills from the animated games using an interactive touch screen and stylus. The Leapster2 system offers many options for creative play. Kids can also connect online for extra activities and rewards, while parents connect to get updates and see firsthand what their child is learning. Games sold separately, (availability may vary).     My 3 year old initially was a little intimidated......for about 5 seconds. Once she got the leapster 2 in her hands it was just a matter of time before she pretty much figured out most of the pertinent features and navigation. I was happy to see that the device comes with activities preloaded so the device was usable right out of the box. The device has decent power saving features and will automatically shut off after a few minutes of inactivity. The device supports pausing for those sudden trips to the bathroom. The PC communication/upload/download capability is a nice touch and worked flawlessly on my 6 year old, home built PC. The cartridges are easily popped in and out of the device even by a 3 year old. The locking battery compartment is a bonus (also contains the memory card slot). The only real complaint is the decision to only support full size SD cards 2GB and under. I've got a ton of sd cards laying around that I can't use.

      I got this for my six year old son (now seven). We got the Limited edition Cars version cost a little more but came with a game. He thought it was cool because of the cars design was diffrent then the standard green leapster look.

      At first he compalined since he would have rather had a ds like his big brother. (We couldn't see spending that kind of cash on a child who tends to loose things.)

      After the initial complaining was over he has had fun with this. He takes it on long car trips or to his brother's practice or anytime where we may have to sit a wait. i.e. Doctor's office. It does the job in entertaining him and the added bonus is that he is learning while being entertained.

      I have even caught our nine year old playing with it on occasion. The only complaint I have is that seem so to eat up batteries however, I think you can buy a recharging station. Would be a good investment considering how often we change batteries.

      My favorite thing about this product is that as a parent you are able to see the progress the child or children (multi user capable) are making.

        My 4 year old son loves the Star Wars game....it will distract him at restaurants and rainy days, but it is 90% entertainment and 10 education. You can't rely on this to teach your kids, but it will come in handy to fill 15 minutes or so of down time
