I love this attachment for GRATING CHEESE. It does a really fast job, and I have now taken to using it to do a big block of cheese for the begging of the week, and keeping it in a tupperware container for use in my fridge. I also think it does a great job at doing carrots, especially for carrot cake/muffins, etc. The attachments aren't great for a lot of softer foods, as it sort of mangles them, and using a mandolin, is kind of necessary for things like cucumbers or etc. It does a really good job on prepping potato latkes, because it doesn't matter that it turns the potatoes and onions into a goopey mess because of their high water content.

I was very very disappointed in this product. It does "Mangle" most food items that I wanted to slice up. Yes it can shred carrots but I had to stop multiple times to remove the carrot chunks that ended up between the rotor and the attachment. It does shred cheese nicely, but does not slice anything that I tried- onions, parsley, celery, green peppers without making a mess! The most irritating thing was at the time I purchased this in early May there were two good reviews, and no negative review. I cannot understand why negative reviews were not present! It would have kept me from buying the attachment. At the time of my writing this review there is a comment about the food being mangled; but it has generously given it a 4-star! When I returned the rotor/slicer I had to pay for the shipping, which was approximately $14.15.

Awkward to load, press, mushy results and food builds up inside cylinder or shoots outside of bowl.

Comments about KitchenAid Rotor Slicer/Shredder Attachment for Stand Mixers:

My old 70's Oester Mixer shredder and slicer was easier to use and with better results. I am glad I kept it. It. The recommended speed setting at four seems too slow for potatoes, carrots, and/or cabbage.

Comments about KitchenAid Rotor Slicer/Shredder Attachment for Stand Mixers:

Last year, I attempted to use the Rotor Slicer to slice cucumbers for pickling. It just destroyed my cukes! I have also tried to use this for Carrots, didn't work well at all. I was able to make sliced potatoes, but I found it to be difficult to disengage once you are completed with your slicing. My husband had to help me and he used a pliers. I love my Kitchen Aide, but this attachment is really bad.

Read several other reviews and thought maybe others were being too critical. Bought the slicer/shredder and it is so true what everyone said. The vegetables stuck between slicer and cone. Cone is very hard to loosen, had to have help. Husband even had trouble...seems the more you shred the tighter it gets. Sorry wish it had worked...loved the idea of having one appliance with several different attachments. Kitchen Aid please go back other drawing board and fix the issues. Shredder/slicer just does not work not worth the money.

Comments about KitchenAid Rotor Slicer/Shredder Attachment for Stand Mixers:

I was a little surprised with the reviews on this. I got mine about 2 years ago. I love it. I use it for everything but tomatoes. I have been thorough at least 4 food processors. and the motors quit or the blades brake. The blades turn to fast for cheese that it ends up melting it. If I try shredding things by hand I usually end up with my fingers getting cut up..... yuck. With this one you can slow it down for softer things or to keep it from mangling stuff. and speed it up for stuff like carrots. You do get bigger chunks between the blade but not any worse then a food processor. And you can just watch and pull them out when they fall in your bowl. When I first got it, the tongs that you hook the blades to where to tight so the blades wouldn't seat. I just took a screw driver and loosened them up and now they work great. They are very easy to clean I just through the whole thing in the dishwasher and forget it. I am thinking about getting another one because I use it so much that it's usually still in the dishwasher when I want to make something else. The only way your getting this away from me is my cold dead fingers!

Being lead to believe that this was a shredder/ slicer I bought it --wrong move-- this wont even shred carrots properly. The edges are all rounded off as if the process of sharping them was over looked . I went to BB&B and pulled another one out for inspection. Same problem. Hate to see Kitchen Aid put out such a poor product.

Comments about KitchenAid Rotor Slicer/Shredder Attachment for Stand Mixers:

The product literature lead you to believe that it is a slicer...IT DEFINITELY IS NOT. The metal in the cones is near 1/8th inch thick, and the elements to slice or shred have been pushed out of the metal. But these edges have not been sharpened so when you try to slice a vegetable it is only accomplished by brute force on the plungers and the result is a torn away (Not Sliced) Vegetable. I am going to take it back...as it is either not made correctly and misrepresented in their literature. I have worked in and around food for over 40 years and this product is just bad.

Comments about KitchenAid Rotor Slicer/Shredder Attachment for Stand Mixers:

I have had my kitchen mixer and shredder slicer attachment for 37 years. I love it. However this week I found the shaft attachment that attaches the blades to the attachment was bent. I am not sure how this could of even happened after all these years of use. Kitchen aid sells new ones and one is on the way to me. I use this attachment for shredding and slicing cheese, potatoes, cabbage, cucumbers, peppers, carrots, just about anything firmer than tomatoes (it doesn't slice those they are too soft) I have found that my daughter in law's kitchen aid mixer is not as powerful as mine and doesn't work as well. I read the other reviews of this attachment and did not find those problems. So if you are going to buy a new mixer make sure it is the most powerful motor for the best use. The graters can be difficult to clean especially if used for cheese. It is bulky to store.

I love my Kitchenaid stand mixer, my problem is when I have used the shredder/grater or the slicer attachment. Both of these do a relatively ok job but when I am using them, they come loose, I have to stop the process and pull the pieces away from the blades, etc.. Not sure what I am doing wrong but it is easier for me to just do these processes by hand than having to fight with the attachments.
