Super Duper PC

By RichardS

Comments about HP Pavilion Elite HPE-570f 2TB Hard Drive Desktop PC - Black:

I'm the kind of guy who usually goes to a big box store to make fairly big electronics purchases. However, I suffer from a need for immediate gratification, so I decided to build my computer at the HP site and have it shipped to me in 2 days. It actually arrived on the morning of the 2nd day...Not too shabby. I unboxed it, and it was sleek and shiny. I must have been a crow in a past life because I like shiny stuff. Anyway, I unfolded the instruction sheet and started plugging everything in. Didn't take me too long, but when I turned everything on, the monitor kept telling me that it was searching, searching, ...sleeping, and I could not get it to stay awake. I absolutely hate dealing with customer support. Not because there's anything wrong with HP's customer support, it's just that when it comes to getting help on the phone, I can play the fool with the best of 'em. As it turned out, the support person was very polite, very patient, and very helpful. Still, it took us about 2.5 hours to get the problem fixed. Why do I bother to mention this? Because, like another reviewer, I think that the setup sheet tries to be all things to all computer models, whereas if it was more model specific, my problem, (Which was caused by ME, not HP) would probably not have reared it's ugly head. That's my only complaint. I rated it 5 stars on everything because that's what this machine deserves. I can't say enough good things about it. It's sleek, stylish, and most importantly, very powerful and fast. In my opinion, you'll not find a more capable computer in this price bracket. I am, and will continue to be, all HP. Thanks for reading.

Great machine

Comments about HP Pavilion Elite HPE-570f 2TB Hard Drive Desktop PC - Black:

Have this pc since Nov 2010, Running every day. It breezes through everything I can throw at it. From photo editing to video editing. Nothing slows it down. I had no problems setting it up. I am not a gamer. I did up grade to W7 professional. I have it up and running with Boinc and can not believe the results I am getting. 6 Projects running at the same time and most done within a few hours. I am getting over 7 times more credit then with any of my Intel PCs with 2 processors. I am running 2 monitors, one can have a streaming video on and work on a editing a photo and I see no problems.

Great Once it's Working

By MechaGodzilla

Comments about HP Pavilion Elite HPE-570f 2TB Hard Drive Desktop PC - Black:

Like the other reviewer I had problems right out of the box. After running it through software and BIOS tests with tech support for 20 minutes - and HP's tech support is very helpful, I was forced to crack the case. Once inside, it was as I thought from the BIOS tests - the Hard Drive was disconnected from the power source. This would be an easy fix usually but the massive 3D card blocks the motherboard connectors and makes the replugging of the HD into the motherboard a very tricky challenge. After much finger gymnastics, everything was reconnected and the computer works great. If I hadn't built computers before and known what to look for, I would have just shipped it back. HP - two for two on reviews saying loose wires - maybe someone at the China plant needs to be made aware of the issue? On the plus size this machine is a top notch. Fans are quiet. Extra hookups in the front and back for just about anything you can connect to a computer. Top notch processor, extra RAM, BLURAY, a massive HD and an outstanding video card. For the money you can't beat it. The kids games run on this at top settings with no issues. Movies look great. I'd reccommend this machine to anyone. Just be aware of the potential for a loose fitting coming with it.

Keep your eyes open!

Comments about HP Pavilion Elite HPE-570f 2TB Hard Drive Desktop PC - Black:

I received my new HPE-570f just three days ago at this writing so I'm not going to have profound things to say. I do have a few notes that might be helpful. This is a whole bunch of computing machine which a reader will note from the features list. The doggy part is the hard drive - Western Digital, by the way. On the other hand, these huge HD's are pretty speedy compared to the days of 100GB drives even though the rotation speed is not great. Speed is trade off for a two TB drive at this price point. The case is metal and chunky. I'd strongly suggest you get out the screwdriver and pull the cover before doing anything. Use a flashlight and have a look at the packed innards. The reason I'm firm in my suggestion is that the hard drive connector had come loose in transit. And was a real devil to put back. If you have an eight year old who can reach through the wiring tangle you might be able to bottle up several choice words. I didn't and didn't. While the cover was off I found that the one available PCIe slot won't take a full card. I need to put in a parallel adapter and fortunately waited before putting through my order. Just too much stuff in that fairly small case. On the positive side, there is room for more drives. Since this really is a media machine, you are very likely to need more space fairly soon despite the 2TB drive! Runs quietly and cool. I realize that those comments are relative. There were (3?) fans where I'd put them. The CPU is mounted on copper tubing and a massive heat sink. Surprised me. The power supply does not have it's own fan, but seems to be running cool enough that I can put my hand on it. The printed poster is trying to cover too many computers. And wasn't completely helpful with this one. In the accessory box were two mystery baggies. Both containing the IR parts for the tuner and video player. The large, matchbox sized piece has a snap on clip poorly designed to hang the detector to the top of a monitor. At least poorly designed to mount to my HP-2511x. A second shiny blob has a bit of stickem on it and will eventually find a home. At the moment it is dangling on the top of the monitor. These to plug into the TV card. One connection is color coded and the other piece goes into the non coded connection. There is no antenna for the wireless connection. Works fine for me without it, but I'm only ten feet away with a clear sight to the router. As for bloatware - I'd expected something horrendous from reading about HP computers on the net. It wasn't bad at all and with a 2TB drive I'm blowing off that stuff slowly. Norton is really the only one with deep tentacles and I've got 60 days to get around to it becoming an annoyance. There are several HP things which may or may not prove to be useful. Time will tell and they sit there benignly until I make that decision. There are excellent uninstallers and start up managers available as freeware that will be of great assistance in making these decisions. So, five stars because I had no surprises that I couldn't overcome. The loose connector should loose a star, but I'd been warned and habitually take a look inside new computers anyway.
