I ordered on the 5th(Sunday) with standard shipping and received my printer on the 8th. Had the unit unpacked, software installed and up and running in 15 minutes. It's first task was to scan 22 pages of mixed types of paper. Some pages had stickers, some pages were carbon copy contacts of a different size. It took all pages with no problem right from the feeder the first time. I also Have a Officejet 7410 that would choke on only 5 pages. This printer is amazing for the price. It beats printers costing 5 times as much. It is super quite and very fast. The scanning software is much better than my older Officejet. It can now scan straight to PDF. The XL black cartridge gets 1200 pages($.03pp), that is unheard of in this price range. I have this printer on my network and can print from my apple ibook and my wife's windows desktop on the other side of the house. Bottom Line. I bought it for the cheap ink, but fell in love with the features and ease of use. I would recommend this printer to anyone and everyone.

I bought this printer to replace a printer, scanner and fax. I made a mistake. I lost features I had with separate equipment. All of my office equipment is HP (but not in the future) This printer is a nightmare to install. The CD provided did not run on Windows 7. You have to pay extra for a Windows 7 CD. I downloaded the installation software. The softwre won't run from a burned CD. The installation process failed again and again. If you use the HP help files on line and follow their instructions, some instructions cause a computer restart, so you have to start all over again after the computer reboots. Some advertized features on the scanner do not work on Windows 7. For example, if you want to scan a page the scan button on the printer does not work. You have to go to the computer to scan. This doesn't work when you have computers in different rooms. And this is susposed to be a "wireless" solution? The printer takes a long time to startup after it goes to sleep. The printer mechanism makes a loud racket on the first page, making you think the gears are stripped. This is not good for a quiet office or home. There is no printed documentation to explain all the features on the printer. You have to push buttons and guess what they do and see how they work. There may be many built-in features in the printer but one can only guess what they are and how to use them. Bottom line: The printer is poorly documented, makes loud noises, some advertized features don't work on Windows 7, and it doesn't come with required installation software. It is not truely "wireless" if you have to run back and forth between the printer and the copmputer to scan. I would not buy this printer again, nor would I recommend it to a friend. My next printer will not be an HP.

Best Product I've ever bought!

By computergenius

Comments about HP Officejet 6500 All-in-One Printer:

I bought this printer because I needed to be able to print things off for school. I'm a college student therefore a little poor. I was impressed that I had options when it came to buying ink. regular or XL? I seriously used it heavily my first semester of school. guess what.... I've had it for 700 pages and just barely replaced my first cartridge 6 months later. I replaced it with the XL black cartridge. done about 200 pages. Haven't put a dent in it. I'm very pleased at how well the eco mode works for things I will only see yet how professional it looks for my assignments. Fax is awesome! Scanner works great. i have it set up on a vista laptop and a Windows 7 desktop. It works awesome. its also been nice that my roommates can scan from it to their computers over my network. I used this printer to replace a lexmark all in one. Never again... HP all the way!!! On another note. Every HP product that I've ever owned has stood the test of time. I have an HP Laserjet 1100 that I need to discard of only because the paper feeder won't work anymore. (Some part broke in it and I don't know how to fix it) That printer came from an office where it got used heavily before I got it. They just upgraded to a network printer.

Watch out

Comments about HP Officejet 6500 All-in-One Printer:

Be careful purchasing this printer. It has nice features such as wireless, 2 sided printing, scanning & coping. The printer connects wirelessly just fine to my desktop, netbook and 3 laptops. Customer support for this product is not good. There are known issues with this printer that HP is very little help with. I found it nearly impossible to connect my printer with my wireless router. I had to re-enter all my network security information for every print job submitted. I ended up connecting the printer to my router by cable to avoid the security problems. Just have to keep the printer near my router. The other problem is that after a few months the display read paper jam. After making sure there was no jam, resetting everything multiple times, I couldn't get the paper jam message to go away. Again customer support was no help. I researched the problem on the internet as was able to fix the problem by lubricating some of the gears inside the printer. There may be more known problems out there that HP has been unable to fix. I recommend that you do an internet search of the problems with this or any other printer before purchasing. I checked the internet to compare feature between many printers and if I had checked the reliability of this printer I would not have purchased it.

Hates my officejet 6500

Comments about HP Officejet 6500 All-in-One Printer:

The thing is loud and slow. Drinks huge amounts of expensive ink. Worse, apparently is incompatable with my HP laptop and despite taking it back to the shop and having new software/driver installed, I could not scan anything from it to my computer. I ended up buying an Epson scanner so I could scan. Also, there is no adapter to put your memory card into so you can insert it into the machine. Worthless. DO NOT BUY

Not a Good Printer for Windows XP

By Lizbee

from New Jersey

Comments about HP Officejet 6500 All-in-One Printer:

I have read several of the reviews for this printer and several other HP printers on this site and it seems that this is just not a good printer for Windows XP. This was my 2nd HP office jet printer, the first one was the 4500 officejet. The 6500 is very noisy at start-up. The 4500 was quiet at start-up. With the 6500 the pages sometimes come out a little damp. The 4500 did not have this issue. The 6500 uses A LOT of ink to print. I found the 4500 to be very good on ink usage. Big difference between the two on this feature. The 6500 has never jammed. The 4500 would occasionally jam. at the beginning only occasionally but after at month 3 & 4 this became more of a problem. One minute it was ok and then the next 10-12 pages would be jammed. The only way I worked around this issue, is that I would turn it off and then come back to it a few days later. Why did I switch printers? Because the 4500 would not scan. Neither the IT Dept at my large employer, nor HP were able to make it scan once. It would freeze my lap top and I would need to reboot it several times. The software was installed and reinstalled more than 4 times. I documented over 25 hours on getting the scan function to work. This is no exageration. Finally I was sent a new printer - the Officejet 6500. This time, I had to uninstall and reinstall the software two times. The CD that comes inside the box does not work. One has to go to the HP website to download the software. I was finally able to scan at the end of this process. However, three days later when I tried to scan, I was not able to. It would scan 3 pages in a matter of 55 minutes. It would scan one page and then it would stall while the scanning was trying to complete. I would then need to turn off the printer, unplug it and try it again. Frequently I would need to reboot my laptop because the printer would not recognize that it was connected to it via a USB cable. Again, this process had to be repeated over, and over again. Very frustrating! Finally, after 10 hours over 2 days with HP Tech Support (remote in to laptop) in addtion to my employer's IT support desk (remote in), they agreed to send me a new printer. They tried everything. I purchased a new cable, connected the printer to various outlets throughout my apt., scanning from the solution center, pressing the scan button on the printer itself, installing and reinstalling the software, etc. I hope this next one works but based on the reviews I can see that HP has a software issue or compatability issue with Windows XP. No, I am not computer savy but my computer has a good IT support desk and they tried everything to help me. I spoke with several HP tech's and a couple were exceptional but neither could completely resolve the scan issue. I am new to this company and recently I spoke with a coworker who has the same printer and same laptop. She can't scan either. Bottom line - Officejet 6500: If you have Windows XP and you want to scan, know that you may not be able to do so. Officejet 4500: Yes, it does look flimsy and cheap but it is good on ink and the print quality is good. The only reason I can't recommend it is due to the issue with frequent paper jams. The scan function never worked.

too many problems, too expensive to run

By undoubting8thomas

from Undisclosed

Comments about HP Officejet 6500 All-in-One Printer:

I still think that this all-in-one SHOULD be brilliant, but am currently only able to the fax and B/W printing without problems.. until the ink runs out again. Main problems: 1) Eats ink. A lot of it. You are not going to waste your time to try to find the receipt and go for a refund. You will need to get a new cartridge for your urging needs. I think I was able to print some dozen color prints before that ink run out. 2) Many software problems keep you busy. I have been unable to 'align' my printer for months which means extra 30-40 seconds to start the machine. The scanning is not a recognizable operation - and when it was it would be taking random scans in random size. Not very practical. Some smaller problems I have already been able to erase from my memory. Summa summarum: an unreliable and expensive to use printer that will keep on frustrating you.

Less than expected from HP

By jwh2317

Comments about HP Officejet 6500 All-in-One Printer:

I had been monitoring HP printers and prices because the printheads on the Photosmart D7360 and C7280 printers I own were starting to block colors. The OJ6500 E709a seemed to have the features and performance to fit my needs. The setup instructions were clear and it was successfully put into operation for a Mac OS 10.4.11 desktop and HP laptop with Windows 7. The printing is clear but the speed is much slower than stated on specs., especially for PDF's. For the Mac I removed the driver installed from the CD and downloaded new software from the HP website which helped some but it still only prints about half speed. From the laptop it prints at about 2/3 the advertised speed. I do almost exclusively b&w printing but the 3 color inks are being rapidly depleted. Thus this printer will be more expensive to use than the other HP printers I've owned. I'm disappointed that HP hasn't done a better job of designing this printer for fast, efficient home office operation.
