This unit's counter-top is NOT solid wood. It is a laminate wood top...hollow inside. The joined ends of the laminate are clearly seen under sunlight. You can clearly see the areas on the top where sections were nailed into place due to tiny holes grouped together in certain areas.

Given that, the unit is heavy and built solid. Overall, it looks great and the instructions are very clear.

    The shelf does not lock in place correctly. When it is in the up position it's slants 1 inch downward.
    I would not purchase again.
    I did not get a response when contacted the manufacturer.

          I put this together by myself while my husband was out of town. I would recommend having help. The directions are good but there was some difficulty lining up the holes at the end of the project. But it looks great in my kitchen.

              Beautiful piece, however, the only draw back was that it arrived broken. Luckily the damage was limited to the bottom of the drawer and does not show. I opted not to send it back because the boxes (3) were very big and heavy, and I needed to use the piece quickly. Assembly took two people and took two hours from start to finish. Pieces are solid wood and I was very pleased at the quality. Apart from the damage, I was very happy.
