The shelves cannot hold anything heavy. My daughter attempted to store 5 dinner dishes on one of the shelves, and it collapsed.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

    This is a great sheving unit for an outside patio. It aslo has a double use. Put it in the garage in the winter to store all your summer items on.
