Let me first start of by saying that I have loved many products I have purchased but have never written a review on them but cannot pass this one up. Yesterday I was vacuuming with an old Kenmore lug around that has been with me for about 15 years and it finally gave up and stopped working. So I went to a local retailer (because I had a coupon) and purchased the Dyson DC33 Multi-Floor Vacuum. I decided on Dyson because I own the Dyson AM02 Fan and love it, and because everyone kept saying what a great vacuum it is. This vacuum is amazing, and I will never purchase any other vacuum ever! Oh, and just another pointer before I begin, this vacuum is one of the most powerful invented by Dyson as far as air wattage (suction) is concerned, it has a 240 air watt rating, most of the Dyson balls and Animal machines are in the 165 to 220 range. So about the machine, it is built very well and extremely durable. The suction power is CRAZY!!! Some background about my apartment, we have two medium hair cats (a sokoke forest cat and a russian blue) and a dog (pit-bull terrier mix). All three shed religiously, but the majority of the pet hair in the apartment comes from the dog. There is carpet in the bedroom and wood floors in the living room, dinging room, kitchen, laundry room, and bathrooms. I was able to vacuum my bedroom with the old vacuum before it died. I wanted to do the "Dyson Test" and vacuum my bedroom again and see what the old vacuum left behind. I about gagged when I looked at the bin. There was dust, cat hair, and carpet freshening powder (almost a full inch all the way around the bin). My carpet in my bedroom has NO smell at all anymore, the air in the bedroom is noticeably cleaner, and the carpet is fluffy and spongey again. The machine is incredibly easy to maneuver and here is one of the best features, you do NOT have to move cords laying around or by baseboards, the vacuum simply pushes them upward out of it's way to clean what is under them and then puts them back so to speak. Awesome design! After the bedroom I cleaned the entire apartment with the vacuum and WOW! This machine does incredibly well on hardwood floors as well! It has my floors completely spotless which has never happened since moving in due to the pet hair. There is no dog or cat hair anywhere, and again the air is noticeably cleaner and easier to breath. OH, an important point for those with allergies or asthma, this vacuum is allergy and asthma certified, it does not indicate this on the Dyson website when using the search for your perfect vacuum feature, but it is says so on the machine and the box. Also for those of you who wear contact lenses... I told my mother about his vacuum and she said they are nice but does not want to use one because she doesn't want dust in her contact lenses when she empties the bin. Good news.. This vacuum does NOT make a cloud of dust so emptying is suitable for even the most sensitive of contact lense wearer's. I wear glasses myself and have switched from contact lenses to glasses for eye health reasons. The attachments that come with the vacuum are a "dusting" attachment and a "hard to reach" attachment with bristles. They are both very well built and work well, however I do think I will be purchasing the other tool sets as they offer more versatility. About the hose/wand that so many people complain about... It is a little difficult to use at first but does get better with some practice. Many people complain saying it is impossible to use, that is most certainly NOT true it is usable but keep in mind that Dyson built the hose to retain DURABILITY so yes it is stiff but does loosen up after a coupe of uses and it most definitely reaches he ceilings. I did notice a little neck and lower back discomfort from using the wand because I was using it to clean a vent on the ceiling but I think that is pretty much standard when cleaning something 9 feet above you with a hose... The wheels glide so easily on any surface and it is easy to change directions if you wish to do so, the cord is CRAZY long, could probably do the whole apartment without moving the cord. The air that is expelled from the vacuum is clean, clean, clean! NO ODOR AT ALL! There are two HEPA filters that have a lifetime guarantee and have to be washed every three months minimum (ONLY cold water and NO cleaners, soaps, or scrubbing and wait 24 hours before using the vacuum after cleaning so the HEPA filter's may properly dry). As for mom's, please stop lugging around that old vacuum that picks up 1/10 of the dirt on your floor, and puts out dirty air with who knows what in it. You deserve much more than that, after all you are mom's! You do so much work around the house, from cooking to cleaning to homework, etc, you don't have time to use an old vacuum that you have to vacuum the same spot over and over again. Plus if you have children, especially babies and toddlers, you'll feel a lot better about letting them crawl on the carpet or floors once you know that they are actually clean. The vacuum is lightweight and easy to store, so those with mild arthritis or other discomfort should not have any problems using this wonderful machine. Oh, one last thing... before using my Dyson vacuum my apartment took on the familiar but not so pleasant "Oh you have pets, a dog and two cats. Hmmm..." even though I cleaned the house weekly, with one thorough vacuum the smells are gone, and I mean GONE!

I like my Dyson suction power, but very disappointed with the pull out hose for the attachments. The hose is very stiff and not user friendly, I love to clean everything and can not use my attachments, because of the stiff hose, just can't get it to flex like I like, takes to much time to work with getting the hose to do what you want it to do. I'm not happy that I made the investment for this vacuum for that reason. I have always made a investiment in a good vacume. I have had elextrolux, kirby, went with a cheaper vacuum once a windtunel, and now the Dyson. I have never had the problem that I have with the Dyson on getting the hose to work with me as I clean, it just will not bend the way you want it to do.

Not one of my better purchases!

      By Auz1

Comments about Dyson DC33 Multi Floor Upright Vacuum:

After hearing all the hype about "Dyson" this and "Dyson" that, I saved up my money, found one on sale (admittedly, it's a refurbished unit), and bought it - the first new vacuum I've ever purchased (and I'm no spring chicken!). What a mistake! I've given this vacuum almost a full month to show me what's so great about it and haven't found anything yet. There are only 3 "pro" comments for this vacuum: 1. It does appear to have good suction power - but then, my current vacuum is 20+ years old so anything would have better suction! 2. It does well on bare floors. 3. It has a nice long cord. The cons - oh boy, there are a lot! 1. It's heavy - there are steps throughout my home, so I have to lug this thing up and down them to reach all the rooms. 2. It's difficult to push/pull - I end up with a screaming backache from all the twisting effort it takes to push and pull this across the carpet. 3. It does NOT go under furniture or cabinets (like kitchen cabinets that "overhang" or stick out a few inches above the floor) so anything beyond a 1" range under these - forget about getting it picked up. 4. The extension hose/wand is a joke. First off, that release button is in a very poor spot and will only "release" if you are able to hit it just right - with something harder and heavier than your finger. Trying to pull it out to full length to use it - not a chance. Ok, I'll admit, because it's "new" maybe it needs to be stretched out more, but still, having to pull out the wand and then having little to no maneuverability because the expansion hose won't go further than a couple feet is ridiculous. 5. The power on/off switch - again poor design/placement - also takes a lot to operate. I've broken more nails trying to push on or off only to have my finger slip and hit the edge of the housing - or jammed a finger trying to get it turned on or off. 6. That canister release... Seriously? It's supposed to work by just (here we go again) "pushing a button"? Not a chance! It worked the first time I used it. Since then, it has NEVER released or latched correctly to close. I have to finagle and fuss with it (ending up manually maneuvering the latch) to get it opened or closed (try doing that while making sure you're standing over the trash can for when it finally does open up!). 7. Putting the canister back on the machine once you finally get it opened, emptied, and closed - nope. It has never aligned correctly, and (again) takes a lot of jiggling it to get it "just right" and then it usually takes being smacked to get it latched into place. 8. I was absolutely stunned to realize that there is no release button for the head unit, that you have to stand sideways and step on the front of the vacuum while pulling the back in order to use it... (or try standing over top of it and pulling the handle back while balancing yourself to step on the front). I'm no acrobat, nor are my legs 6' long! :) Sorry Dyson - I finally conceded that this vacuum & I just aren't a good "fit" and returned it. I'll be using that money to apply towards purchasing a new machine from another manufacturer. In the meantime I'll be using my old, barely alive but USER FRIENDLY vacuum!

      bummer...

Comments about Dyson DC33 Multi Floor Upright Vacuum:

I really liked this vacuum, from the way it looked to how sturdy it felt while vacuuming. Unfortunately, after only a few days of use, I noticed enough Cons that I returned it. It is heavy, albeit the hose is long, I still have to carry it to the second floor. It's also bulky - I had trouble reaching under furniture. The wide base made it difficult to vacuum between furniture - I arranged my home so I could vacuum with the smaller base Shark Lift away between furniture without using the hose and attachments. To go from carpet to hard floor, I have to keep bending down to turn off the brush unlike with my older vacuum where the brush toggle is right next to the hose. I wanted to be a Dyson family member, but alas, it's just not practical enough for me. Although, I'm impressed enough with the unit that I will certainly recommend it for all the positive things about the product. For my purposes, I will have to get another shark vacuum - bummer Dyson.

Comments about Dyson DC33 Multi Floor Upright Vacuum:

I have been totally amazed at the cleaning power of this machine. As a trial, I vacuumed a room with my Oreck and then with the DC 33. It removed about a half gallon of dirt and dog hair that the Oreck missed. Same with my Hoover. Long dog hair has been the death of several vacs for me due to beater bar entanglements and this vacuum handles the hair much better and the bar is relatively easy to clean. Although it doesn't fit under furniture well and the telescoping wand is somewhat awkward to use, I have encountered none of the problems with emptying and replacing the canister as reported in a previous review. Many features are unorthodox or different from what I am used to but I will adapt. The cleaning power of the DC 33 more than offsets it's very few cons. It is very close to a 5 star rating. In addition to the above, it is one of the less pricy models. I highly recommend it.

I must say this is the most amazing vacuum EVER! We just bought ours today. I did think I was going to have to put in ear plugs due to how loud it was but other than that, it's perfect!

Hi, this is my third dyson. I have an DC27 animal and it was just so worn out, stopped sucking and out of warrenty,so i had to buy a new one. Not too happy about that because of the cost. I bought a DC24 animal vac to replace it, but in the last 2 yrs, it has been in the shop for repair 3 times and I am still waiting for the parts to come in to the repair shop so I can pick it up.. It has been over seven weeks now :( Not Happy about that !!! I was so desperate for a vacuum while waiting for mine to be repaired, I found the DC33 at a decent price so, i bought it. It is an OK vacuum, but nothing like the animal vac as I have many pets in the house, just doesnt suck the same. It is a decent vacuum, buy I guess I am just so upset about my other two that I cant give it a 5 star rating i

Comments about Dyson DC33 Multi Floor Upright Vacuum:

" DysonDC 33" I clean houses for a living and bought this vacuum I thought it would be a good investment I had heard so much about them I thought I would give it a try. I have used alot of vacuums in my 15 years of cleaning and this is the worst one I have ever had and it was not cheap!I think sucking power on it is terrible I would never recommend it to anyone . I have an electrolux upright that is 20 years old it can out sweep this one 20 to 1. Also the vacuum repair place in my town hates to work on them so it just sets in the closet. I have pictures of both Vacuums if you wonld like them.

      Ok, but not great

      By COuser

Comments about Dyson DC33 Multi Floor Upright Vacuum:

I bought this vacuum a couple of years ago and experienced the racheting noice some have complained about, but it seems to go away in time - perhaps with the machine loosening up some. I was initially impressed by how quiet the machine was in comparison to other higher priced models; however, the noice will increase with time. My machine is now at the point that I have to wear ear protection because it is so loud. We do have two pets in the house and it does ok at picking up hair, but do notice that there isn't a lot of clearance around the outside of the canister so many times the hair will get stuck and the volume of the canister will be decreased. It is handy how they have designed dumping the contents, but as I mentioned, sometimes the dirt gets stuck so you have to dig it out by hand anyway...so it defeats the purpose and you get your hands dirty anyway. Overtime you will notice that the machine and how it fits together with each of the components gets loose so the suction will significantly decrease. Not sure I would spend the money again, these vacuums cost significantly more, but don't last any longer than a more inexpensive model.

      THIS SUCKS!!

Comments about Dyson DC33 Multi Floor Upright Vacuum:

I actually read a complaint that their Dyson sucked too hard..... I bought mine from Costco yesterday and could NOT wait to get it out of the box. We have Wool area rugs, Burgundy stained natural wood floors, thick carpet, brick fire place & tile in our house. The floor NEVER has been so clean. Even after I've wiped it down by hand. Not to mention we have FOUR DOGS and TWO kids! If you don't LOVE this vacuum, may lightening strike you in the head to ZAP some sense into yah. Our old Dyson was beyond warranty.... used.. abused and borrowed until it just couldn't do the job anymore. It didn't suck and that sucks. Never knew where the directions went. Im thinking the HEPA filter needs to be cleaned!? That might be the only issue. Then we will have 2. Oh... and my new one is blue. My favorite color. Thank you Dyson for Sucking!!

I have a yellow lab and this dyson cleans the dog hair out of the carpet so well, people tell me that they don't even smell dogs when they come over. This product is light enough for me to carry upstairs and easy to empty the canister. I love this product! My next purchase will be the stair tool.

Comments about Dyson DC33 Multi Floor Upright Vacuum:

When I decided I needed a new vacuum I compared the features and costs of every brand. There was a person demonstrating Dyson vacuums at the store and I was impressed, but I could buy any other vacuum at 1/3 the cost. My husband said it you expect it to last, get the best. So I did. The first thing I did when I got home was to put the Dyson together and try it out on my recently vacuumed living room rug. Did I mention that I have 3 cats? Well, by the time I vacuumed half of the rug I had enough fur for two more cats in the container! I would say I'm impressed, but that's not strong enough! Now I can't believe I even considered not getting a Dyson vacuum. Forget the cost - go for the quality!!!
