    We use this gate to separate our dining room from our kitchen. Our toddler can see us through the mesh gate but stays away from kitchen hazards. The instructions were miserable; we read other customers' comments on [...]to get tips for successful installation. Now that it's in place, it works well. A regular gate that spans such a wide opening would be heavy and unwieldy, but this gate retracts beautifully when not in use. Overall, we're very satisfied with this purchase.

        The style is nice but it is hard to install on a banister. Especially a banister that is not parallel with the opposing wall. Also, the release lever sometimes works and somestimes it doesn't. It does have a second option to move it to. That makes it nice for houses with stairs.

            Overpriced for the quality, basically a roll up blind that you install sideways. Does not contain extra spacers that you need if you have any floor molding whatsoever. Not even sure where you are supposed to purchase these spacers. Directions are very poorly written. Unit makes a loud ratcheting noise when the gate is stowed. Sad there are very few alternatives for an opening larger than 50"

            We installed the retractable gates at the top and bottom of our stairs to protect our extremely mobile and curious 9 month old, and the gates have been our best childproofing purchase yet. The retractable function is great for when we don't need them, and both gates came with an additional set of mounting hardware, so if we want to move the gates elsewhere, we can do so easily. At first, the release mechanism was difficult to use, but now that we're used to it, we are able to open the gates while holding the baby. Installation at the top of the stairs was difficult, because we have baseboards, so we had to purchase a spacer for the gate separately (approximately $15 extra). I wish I had known to buy a spacer beforehand (or they were included!!) because this added an extra week of time before we had gates at the top of the stairs.
