Comments about Cast Aluminum Birdbath Deicer:

Living in MN, we get more COLD temps than snow and winters last 4.5 to 6 months. knowing this, I need to keep the birds well watered. The problem I had with the EZ-Clean molded birdbath is that's its's shallow and while it heated perfectly, the dang starlings would wade in the 1.5inches of water and poop in it. arg! so I found this durable, well designed heater. I purchased an inexpensive oil drain pan...the kind for changing your cars oil. it's 4 inches deep. so two positive things, so far this winter of 2013, MN has had sooo many days and nights below zero, or under 15 degrees, and it's only late Dec. This heater has performed wonderfully! never iced over even at -10 degrees, and windchill of -35. the starlings do NOT hop in the water either. they perch on the curved rim of the oil pan, and from there they can poop all they wish, with tail facing out. I recommend a black oil pan, so they can't judge the depth so well. LOVE this heater and of course, so do the birds, squirrels, etc.
