        So Much More than a Music Player

        I wanted an mp3 player and got a small computer in the iPod touch. It stores and plays music as well as photos, audiobooks, and e-books. It accesses the internet. It plays videos. Applications it runs include, well, just about everything. I use one that functions as a level; another that arranges my shopping list by aisle and store; a needle gauge and stitch counter; and a bird identifier with pictures, songs, and information for thousands of birds. Games abound. A huge number of applications for it are free, and many more are as little as a dollar.
        Negatives: it's not the best device for audiobooks, as it doesn't support Digital Rights Management (copy-protection currently used on many audiobooks). It also doesn't support bookmarks, except for starting where you left off the last time.
        8 megabytes sounds like a lot, but an extensive music library will fill it up. I don't have thousands of songs, so it's plenty big for me. If you do, a model with more memory would be more appropriate.

        I love to hook this up to my stereo at home and listen to my stations on Pandora by using my wireless internet. I love to check my e-mail without turning on my computer on the i-pod because it downloads so quickly. It is also nice to be able to reference old e-mails when I need to double check info while I'm out and about. Also, when I'm on vacation I can quick update my e-mail when I have access to WiFi and I don't have to pay for the monthly service fees through cell phone companies. Use Urban Spoon to check out great restaurants in the area as well. The WiFi is by far the best feature!

        I bought this to use in the car when nothing good is on the radio. I like the touch screen - very easy to use while driving. Wish I would have gotten the 16gb, but I'm happy with this.
