I live in rural IL and bought this bike for riding on field paths and water-ways and old railroad-bed bike paths. I've only ridden a couple times so far in the fields behind my property and am very impressed. After spending a little time adjusting the cables and derailleurs myself, the shifting is smooth, quick and precise every time/every gear; with no hesitation or annoying rubbing or clunking noises.

I rated this bike with 5 stars, as it is the best bike I have ever owned. I can't compare the Protocol 1.0 to a bike with a 4 digit price tag as I have never had one. But, after purchasing this one for a little more than "box store" price and being completely satisfied with it, I don't know why I ever would spend that much.

I don't know how well it could handle actual mountain biking and personally never will. It suits my needs well; I'm very happy with it and could have expected to pay 3Xs more for the quality and workmanship I've experienced so far.

This is a great bike for a great price. The only tough part is putting it together and calibrating your brakes and shifters. I definitely recommend this bike for the recreational trail rider.

I am very pleased with this bike. I have added a Velo gel seat and alloy bar ends. Bike was easy to assemble and only need a slight adjustment of the rear derailleur and it was ready to ride.
Only negitive thing is the tires are 1.95 size, not the "Fat 2.35W all-terrain tires" mentioned in the description of the bike.
Great bike for the price!

This is a truly great bike and for not very much money. It is very fun to ride and with a new schwinn seat a confortable ride too. I just started to ride after getting this bike, after having done some mountian bike trails and plan bike trails I truly love this bike!!!

Use shifter 15 to 24 mainly for paved road riding. Anything less for mountain biking off road into hills. Like any new bike, cables stretch for the first few miles and need adjusting. Simple to do, just follow the directions. Seat replaced with a Schwinn wide profile padded contoured black saddle. Adjusted the rear suspension for a softer ride. Had this bike for over a month now. Once adjusted out and broken in, no complaints. Would buy it again. Bought on sale for [$] and change/taxes. Fantastic buy and even has a front disk brake. Not sure I'll really need it, but it's there.

The cost was what drew me to Meijer I am a rookie mountain biker. The bike showed up dropped over a high fence because they didnt want to leave it on the front porch which is fine, but the box was ripped open and bike frame scratched. Didnt ship with front tire skewer and then had to get a new back brake ordered. Overall i guess you get what you pay for. Just know that the warranty rocks and they do a great job getting the parts to you, just wish the bike would stay together.
