    I use this bike around town in San Francisco. I am a big fan of hard-tail mountain bikes even for cities, because you can handle curbs, potholes, whatever. The bike came in a few parts and needed a good amount of tweaking to get the brakes to function ok (still not great) and the chain not to slip off the gears. If I didn't know something about bikes (which screw to turn) I would be wary. The manual is comprehensive, maybe even has too much information about bikes this one isn't.My beef is with the handle bars. They are a major hazard as they come loose. No matter how much I tighten the screw on the stem, they loosen and slip, ESPECIALLY ON DOWNHILLS WHEN YOU NEED BRAKES THE MOST. I had the bars rotate to make my breaks unreachable on a bump while headed down a long hill. Eventually managed to grab the brakes, but if I hadn't .... You get what you pay for. This [$] bike is ok if you baby it, but make sure you know what your doing, or you may kill yourself. Definitely not for agressive riding, or anything not flat.

    Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
